How to Find an Aadhaar Enrollment Center Near You

Whether you're applying for an Aadhaar card for the first time or helping a family member enroll, locating a nearby enrollment center is your first step. The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has set up thousands of enrollment centers across India — in post offices, banks, government offices, and Common Service Centers (CSCs).

Step-by-Step: Locate a Center via the UIDAI Portal

  1. Visit the official UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in.
  2. Click on "My Aadhaar" in the top navigation menu.
  3. Under the "Aadhaar Enrolment & Update" section, select "Locate an Enrolment Centre".
  4. Choose to search by State, District, or Pincode.
  5. A list of nearby centers with their addresses and operating hours will appear.
  6. Note down the center address and check if they require a prior appointment.

Types of Aadhaar Enrollment Centers

  • Permanent Enrollment Centers: Usually located in government offices, banks (like SBI, PNB), and post offices. They operate on regular business days.
  • Common Service Centers (CSCs): Village-level service points that handle Aadhaar enrollments, especially in rural areas.
  • Temporary/Camp-Based Centers: Set up during special drives in schools, panchayats, and community halls.

Documents Required for Enrollment

You'll need to carry one Proof of Identity (PoI) and one Proof of Address (PoA). Acceptable documents include:

  • Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License (for Identity)
  • Ration Card, Electricity Bill, Bank Passbook, Rental Agreement (for Address)
  • Birth Certificate or School Leaving Certificate (for Date of Birth proof)

For children under 5 years, the enrollment is linked to the parent's Aadhaar, and biometrics are updated again at age 5 and 15.

Booking an Appointment (Recommended)

To avoid long queues, you can book an appointment online:

  1. Go to appointments.uidai.gov.in.
  2. Select your city and preferred enrollment center.
  3. Choose a date and time slot.
  4. Enter your mobile number to receive a confirmation SMS.

Tip: Walk-in appointments are also accepted, but arriving early (especially on weekday mornings) helps reduce wait times.

What Happens During Enrollment

The enrollment process typically takes 10–15 minutes. The operator will:

  • Capture your photograph
  • Scan all 10 fingerprints
  • Scan both iris (retina) images
  • Record your demographic details (name, DOB, address, mobile)

At the end, you'll receive an Enrollment Acknowledgement Slip with a 28-digit Enrollment ID (EID). Keep this safe — you'll need it to track your Aadhaar status and download your e-Aadhaar once it's generated.

Checking Your Enrollment Status

After 3–5 business days, check your status at uidai.gov.in using your EID. Once approved, you can download your e-Aadhaar directly from the portal, free of cost.
